IPL 2023: Lucknow Beats Mumbai By Five Runs; Points Table Changes As LSG Replaces Mumbai From Third Position To Fourth

Lucknow, 16th May 2023: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by five runs in the 63rd match of IPL 2023 on the strength of Mohsin Khan’s brilliant bowling in the last over at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow. With this win, the LSG’s playoff hopes are kept alive.
After this victory of LSG, the play-off race has become interesting. Because Lucknow and Chennai have equal 15 points each, but CSK is one place above the Supergiants in the points table due to a better net run rate.
Hardik Pandya- led Gujarat Titans (GT) remain at the top position with 18 points from 13 matches. Mumbai has been somewhat shocked by this defeat. Mumbai has won seven out of 13 matches and have slipped from the third position to the fourth position in the points table with 14 points.
Chasing a target of 178 runs from Lucknow, Mumbai Indians openers Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma got off to a good start. The duo shared a partnership of 95 runs for the first wicket. After this, Rohit Sharma was dismissed after scoring 37 runs. Ishan Kishan scored a half-century while batting well. However, he was caught by Ravi Bishnoi for 59 runs.
After this, Suryakumar Yadav returned to the pavilion with seven runs and Nehal Wadhera with 16 runs. Tim David tried his best to secure the win for the team till the end but could not do so. He scored an unbeaten 32 off 19 balls while Cameron Green remained unbeaten with four runs.
Earlier, Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to bowl first in the match. Lucknow’s new opening pair on the field, Deepak Hooda along with Quinton de Kock, couldn’t do well as Lucknow faced the first blow at the score of 12 and Deepak Hooda returned to the pavilion for five runs.
From there, Quinton de Kock and Krunal Pandya shared a partnership of 23 runs in 23 balls for the third wicket. On 35 runs, Lucknow lost their third wicket in the form of Quinton de Kock by Piyush Chawla.
Losing three wickets for 35 runs, the innings of Lucknow Super Giants were handled by captain Krunal Pandya and Marcus Stoinis. Together they put on a partnership of 82 runs off 59 balls for the fourth wicket. Krunal Pandya retired on 49 runs due to some discomfort while batting. Krunal and Stoinis put on a 59-ball 82-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
After this, Stoinis was joined by Nicholas Pooran. Lucknow scored a total of 24 runs in the 18th over of the innings, 15 runs in the 19th over, and 15 runs in the last over.
Marcus Stoinis and Nicholas Pooran put on a 60-run partnership for the 5th wicket in just 24 balls. Lucknow team scored 177 runs in 20 overs losing three wickets. Marcus Stoinis scored 89 runs off 47 balls. Jason Behrendorff took two wickets and Piyush Chawla took one wicket for Mumbai.
