Pune, October 14, 2020: While the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has not made the Aarogya Setu application compulsory for dine-in restaurants, the District Collector has made the usage of the app mandatory in rural areas, which has led to differences between the two administrations’ policies.

This has also led to chaos and confusion amongst the restaurant owners as well as customers. Whether every restaurant has to check that the customers have the app downloaded or not, Pune Restaurant and Hoteliers Association (PRAHA) president Ganesh Shetty told Punekarnews.in, “It is not mandatory to check whether the customers entering the restaurant have downloaded the Aarogya Setu app,”

The guidelines issued by the PMC and by the tourism department do not mention the downloading of the Aarogya Setu app. However, an earlier order issued by the state government has suggested that the application should be used. “We haven’t been given any instructions to take action against people if they don’t use’ Aarogya Setu”, said Sunil Indalkar, Deputy Commissioner, General Administration, Pune Municipal Corporation.

“The guidelines issued by the state government for restaurant professionals include instructions on using the Aarogya Setu app. Accordingly, the district administration has issued guidelines for rural areas”, said Vijay Singh Deshmukh, Additional Collector.

Sharing his thoughts Dr Ravindra Shiswe, Joint Commissioner of Police, said, “Police have not issued an order regarding installing of Aarogya Setu app.”
