IT Engineer Assault Case in Kothrud: Pune Police Crime Branch Takes Over Investigation

Pune, 25th February 2025: The investigation into the assault on IT Engineer Devendra Jog in Kothrud has been transferred to the Crime Branch, marking a significant development in the case. Pune City Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar announced this move, emphasizing it as a key step in addressing the incident involving the notorious Gajya Marne gang.
The assault occurred during a Shiv Jayanti procession in Bhelke Nagar, Kothrud, when Jog was attacked by gang members including Om Tirtharam Dharmajignasu, Kiran Kondiba Padwal, and Amol Vinayak Tapkir. The accused, along with gang leader Gajanan alias Gajya Marne, have been arrested and charged with attempted murder under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).
Following the transfer of the case, the Crime Branch conducted raids at 74 locations, gathering information on Marne’s properties and vehicles. CP Amitesh Kumar has urged citizens to come forward with any complaints against the Marne gang, assuring confidentiality for informants.
To facilitate this, a special cell will be established within the Crime Branch, overseen by Deputy Commissioner of Police Nikhil Pingle, who is in charge of the Crime Branch. This move aims to encourage public cooperation in tackling organized crime in the area.
