The incident occurred on May 10 at the Cosmos Bank branch on Satara Road. A 66-year-old woman filed a complaint with the Sahakar Nagar police station when she discovered about the theft on June 1.

In her complaint, the woman reported that when she went to the bank, the door on her locker did not fit properly. When she complained to the bank, she was told to remove her belongings from the premises. She was surprised to discover one of her bags carrying the jewellery was missing.

Somnath Jaychand Mulik (21), a native of Mulikwadi in Satara, was apprehended by police within 48 hours. He had been working for a firm that specialised in locker repairs and maintenance for two months when he was sent to the bank.

According to investigators, Mulik took advantage of the fact that bank employees were not there when he went to repair the locker. He busted through the locker with the use of a drill machine and took the jewellery.

Mulik had changed his name and stored the jewellery at his property in Satara, according to police.
