Pune, November 8, 2020: Democratic candidate Joe Biden will become the 46th President of the United States. Biden, 77, is the oldest person to become president of the United States. With the victory in Pennsylvania, he garnered the electoral votes needed for a majority, according to the NYT. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi congratulated Joe Biden on becoming the President of the United States.

Biden has received more than 70 million votes so far. No president has received so many votes before today. “America, I’m honored that you have chosen me to lead our great country. The work ahead of us will be hard, but I promise you this: I will be a President for all Americans — whether you voted for me or not. I will keep the faith that you have placed in me”, Biden tweeted.

Donald Trump has missed out on becoming president for the second time in a row. Trump has also knocked on the door of the court accusing Biden of rigging the US elections.

Kamala Devi Harris is set to become America’s first black woman vice president. California Senator Kamala will also be the first US Vice President of South Asian descent. This is the first time a woman of South Asian descent will hold such a senior position in government. Kamala’s mother hailed from Tamil Nadu.
