Journalist Devidas Deshpande Receives State Award for Journalism

Pune based blogger and journalist Devidas Deshpande received Maharashtra government’s prestigious award for excellence in journalism in the social media category. On Wednesday, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis felicitated Deshpande with a memento, citation and Rs 41,000 cheque in a function held at Yeshwantrao chavan hall near Mantrayala in Mumbai.

The Information and Public relation department of the state government presents gives annual awards to journalists across the state under different categories for their contribution. The government has newly added social media category to these awards last year.

This year, besides Deshpande, Maharahstra Times‘ health reporter Mustafa Attar and Lokmat‘ reporter Sushma Neharkar received awards for their contribution in print media. Uttam Kamble, Editor Director of Sakal, was the recipient of  Lokmanya Tilak life time Achievement Award.

Deshpande has worked in various newspapers in the past and he is now writing blogs on social, political issues on various platforms. He is currently a contributor to the BBC Hindi and Rediff News.

Speaking at the occasion, Fadanavis said, “Government acknowledges work of reporters and their contribution in society by felicitating them with awards. This is not an end to them but an endorsement for their future work.”
