Pune, 9th February 2024: Senior journalist Nikhil Wagle faced an attack on his car by agitated BJP workers in Pune. The incident took place amidst a backdrop of political tension, with BJP workers previously urging the Pune police to cancel Nikhil Wagle’s scheduled program in the city. The attackers not only vandalized Wagle’s car but also threw ink on it.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar responded to the incident, condemning the aggression and ordering appropriate action. Pawar emphasized that such behavior cannot be tolerated in a democratic society.

Wagle was in Pune for the ‘Nirbhay Bano’ program, and the attack is believed to be linked to his previous tweets regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP leader LK Advani.

The situation escalated on Shastri Road, creating chaos as activists from both Mahavikas Aghadi and Mahayuti turned aggressive. The attack on Wagle’s car occurred at Dandekar bridge chowk, leading to a confrontation between Mahavikas Aghadi activists and the police. Some women sustained injuries during the altercation, and ink was thrown on them.

Simultaneously, a program on “Nirbhay Bano – Fight for Democracy, Freedom of Expression” was underway at Rashtra Seva Dal near Dandekar Bridge. The event, organized by various organizations, featured lectures by journalist Wagle and veteran actor Amol Palekar and lawyer Asim Sarode.
