Pune: Fire Breaks Out At Sassoon Hospital, Prompt Action By Staff Prevents Major Disaster

Pune, 9th February 2024: At 08:10 pm today, the Pune Fire Department swiftly responded to a fire reported at the new building of Sassoon Hospital run by the Maharashtra state government. Two fire tenders, one from the fire headquarters and another from Naidu fire station, were dispatched to the scene.

 

Upon arrival, firefighters observed significant smoke within the hospital premises. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that a fire had erupted on the tenth floor of Sassoon Hospital’s new building. The incident originated in the duct behind a toilet in one of the wards, leading to the generation of substantial smoke.

 

According to fire brigade officials, quick-thinking security personnel at the hospital successfully contained the fire using firefighting equipment, preventing a potential major disaster. All patients in the affected ward are reported to be safe.

 

“The fire has been completely extinguished, and the situation is now under control, with no injuries or casualties”, informed Senior Police Inspector Sandipan Pawar, in-charge of Bundgarden police station.

 

Preliminary findings suggest that the fire may have been caused by someone smoking in the hospital toilet. Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the incident.
