Kangana Ranaut Slams Karan Johar’s Latest Film “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani” As Regressive In Scathing Instagram Stories

Mumbai, 29th July 2023: In a series of scathing remarks, Kangana Ranaut voiced her disapproval of Karan Johar’s latest directorial venture, “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani,” through her Instagram stories on Saturday morning. The film, which stars Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh in the lead roles and had been released just the day before, became the target of Kangana’s criticism. She took issue with what she perceived as the film’s resemblance to a daily soap and accused Karan Johar of continuously dragging Indian cinema backwards.
Kangana drew a sharp comparison between Indian audiences’ willingness to watch a three-hour-long film about the origin of nuclear weapons and the complexities of atomic science versus the repetitive and clichéd content prevalent in some films associated with the “no gang” (referring to individuals with influential family backgrounds in the film industry). She questioned the need for a massive budget of 250 crore rupees to make what she considered to be a mere daily soap.
Urging Karan Johar to step away from filmmaking, Kangana expressed her disappointment, shaming him for repeatedly making the same kind of film. She challenged his self-proclaimed title as the flagbearer of Indian cinema and accused him of hindering its progress. In light of the challenging times for the film industry, she suggested that Karan should retire and allow young filmmakers to explore and create new and groundbreaking films.
It was not the first time Kangana had taken a dig at the filmmaker. Previously, she had posted a cryptic note on her Instagram, wondering why there was a conspicuous absence of negative news or fabricated quotes about her, unlike other instances. She indirectly questioned if the nepotism gang was behind this silence or occupied with other matters.
On a different note, “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani” featured a star-studded cast, including Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi, and Jaya Bachchan, among others. Despite the positive reviews it garnered and the impressive box office collection of 11.10 crore rupees on its opening day, the film couldn’t escape Kangana’s criticism.
In contrast to her critiques, Kangana Ranaut herself is gearing up for an intriguing role, portraying former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in her directorial venture titled “Emergency.”
