Reported By Amit Singh
Pune, 02 July 2025: The redevelopment work at Khadki railway station is progressing rapidly, with the construction of platforms 3 and 4 expected to be completed soon. The development is aimed at decongesting Pune railway station and improving connectivity for commuters in the nearby areas.
According to railway officials, the revamped Khadki station will be integrated with the adjacent Khadki Metro station, providing direct access for rail passengers to the Pune Metro network. This is expected to benefit daily commuters, particularly those using local trains on the Lonavala–Pune route.
“Commuters will be able to enjoy a more convenient and seamless travel experience while using public transport,” said Hemant Kumar Behera, Divisional Commercial Manager and Public Relations Officer of Pune Railway Division.
Key Development Highlights:
1. Foot Overbridges (FOBs): A 6-metre-wide FOB is under construction at the Mumbai end. The Pune-end FOB is under approval and will connect Khadki Metro Station with Aundh Road.
2. New Platforms: Construction of new platforms 3 and 4 is underway.
3. Passenger Facilities: Proposals under approval include the installation of lifts and escalators at all platforms, coach guidance and train indicator boards at the new platforms, and development of essential facilities such as a booking office, parcel office, parking area, TTE office, waiting rooms, and halls on platform 4.
4. Amenities: Plans for enhancing passenger amenities include the provision of cover over platforms (COP), toilet blocks, seating arrangements, lighting, and fans at the new platforms.
Currently, long-distance trains halting at Khadki include Deccan Express, Koyana Express, CSMT–Chennai Express, and Sinhgad Express.
A new originating train from Khadki station is expected to be operational soon, a railway official confirmed.
Once completed, the redevelopment is set to improve last-mile connectivity and public transport integration in the region.
