Kolkata Law College Student Gang-Raped; Three Arrested, Fresh Shock After RG Kar Case
Kolkata, 27th June 2025: In a chilling reminder of last year’s RG Kar Medical College sexual assault, another brutal gang rape has been reported from a prestigious educational institution in Kolkata. A female student at a law college in the Kasba area was allegedly gang-raped inside a college room on the evening of June 25.
Police say the three accused, including a former student and two current employees of the college, lured the victim into a room on the premises. One of them allegedly raped her while the other two assisted in the crime, the survivor told police. The assault reportedly took place between 7:30 pm and 8:50 pm.
Acting on her complaint, police arrested the three on June 26 and seized their mobile phones as part of the investigation. Family members of the accused have also been questioned, but police said no significant leads have emerged from them so far.
A senior officer confirmed that the survivor was sent for a medical examination at the National Medical College, and further forensic evidence will be collected to strengthen the case.
The horrific incident has triggered political reactions. BJP leader Amit Malviya took to X (formerly Twitter) to claim that a TMC member was involved, though police have not confirmed any political links yet. Malviya wrote: “The RG Kar horror still hasn’t faded, and yet such heinous crimes continue to rise in Bengal under Mamata Banerjee’s rule. Rape has become a tragic routine. BJP stands with the survivor and her family. We are determined to end this culture of impunity.”
He further pledged that his party would not rest until all perpetrators were brought to justice.
According to police, all three accused will soon be produced before the court. The investigation is ongoing, with officers gathering additional evidence to ensure a strong case against the suspects.
