Kondhwa, 15th December 2025: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today said that the Katraj–Kondhwa road work will be completed at the earliest and Kondhwa will be connected to other parts of Pune through the metro network to ease traffic congestion and boost connectivity in the rapidly growing area.

Speaking at the inauguration of an equestrian statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Kondhwa Budruk, Fadnavis said approval has been granted for the Shivajinagar–Yewalewadi metro corridor. He added that the Swargate–Katraj metro line will be extended up to Kondhwa, while the proposed metro link to the Purandar airport will further connect the area with major transit hubs.

The statue has been installed by the Shri Bhairavnath Gram Vikas Mandal. Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil, MLC Yogesh Tilekar, MLAs Bhimrao Tapkir, Sunil Kamble, Chetan Tupe and office-bearers of the mandal were present at the event.

Paying tribute to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the Chief Minister said the Maratha warrior-king taught Maharashtra self-respect and laid the foundation of a just and inclusive administration.

He described Shivaji Maharaj as a visionary ruler who established a governance system based on equality and ensured strict punishment for crimes against women.

Fadnavis said Kondhwa is a land sanctified by the presence of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, and the installation of the grand equestrian statue has added to the pride of the area as well as the entire state.

He further said that the legacy of Swarajya was protected by Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and later strengthened under leaders like Tarabai, leading to the expansion of Maratha rule up to Delhi.

Fadnavis also noted that a 21-page detailed chapter on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s life and achievements has been included in the CBSE curriculum to ensure future generations understand his contribution to Indian history.

MLC Yogesh Tilekar said the unveiling of the equestrian statue in a region associated with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s legacy was a moment of pride for local residents. He added that the state government is focusing on strengthening infrastructure and accelerating development works in the Kondhwa area.

The event concluded with tributes to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and renewed calls to uphold his ideals of good governance, justice and unity.
