Land Titling Act: Maharashtra Government to Launch Digital Land Ownership System from July
Pune, 11t May 2026: Maharashtra will implement the ‘Land Titling Act’ from July this year, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said on Sunday, adding that the law will provide legal protection to properties owned by nearly 14 crore citizens in the state.
Speaking to reporters after an event organised on the 62nd foundation day of Bharati Vidyapeeth, Bawankule said Maharashtra would become the first state in the country to implement such a law.
He said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed the revenue department to finalise the law, and work on its implementation is currently underway.
According to Bawankule, the new law will create official and verified records of properties across the state. He said the move is aimed at reducing disputes related to land ownership, duplicate sales, fake documents and inheritance claims.
“After the implementation of the Land Titling Act, every property will have an official digital identity. There will be clear and legal records of ownership rights and property transactions,” he said.
The minister added that the government is also planning to completely digitise land and property records in Maharashtra. He said this would improve transparency in property transactions and boost banking, industry and investment.
Bawankule said citizens living outside Maharashtra or abroad would also be able to access property records, verify ownership and carry out transactions digitally from anywhere in the world.
Meanwhile, responding to allegations made by Congress leader Nana Patole regarding the alleged involvement of four ministers in the ‘fake godman Kharat’ case, Bawankule said Patole should immediately reveal the names of the ministers if he has evidence. He added that the state government would immediately initiate an inquiry if such evidence is provided.
He also said the state government is committed to ensuring strict punishment for the accused in the Nasarapur sexual assault case. “Strong evidence will have to be collected within the framework of the Constitution to ensure capital punishment for the accused,” he said.
