Landing Tests Of Fighter Jets On INS Vikrant Begins: Navy Chief
Pune, 1st December 2022: Trials of landing fighter jets have begun on INS Vikrant, the country’s first indigenous aircraft carrier, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral R. Hari Kumar said on Wednesday. He also explained that the government is getting support for the modernization of the Navy. The Navy Chief interacted with reporters after the convocation ceremony of the 143rd batch of the National Defense Academy (NDA).
Hari Kumar said, “INS Vikrant has completed its sea trials after entering the Navy’s fleet. Tests of landing fighter jets have started. The landing system of fighter jets will have to be checked and the tests in that context are going on. Generally, such tests take six to eight months. These tests will be completed by June of the following year. The Navy has emphasized self-sufficiency, and modernization programs are being implemented in it. In 1960, the first indigenously made small boat entered the Navy. Since then, we have been building destroyers and aircraft carriers domestically.”
The decision to admit women students to ‘NDA’ is important. There is equality between men and women in the armed forces. The Navy has taken a historic decision to induct women sailors. Under the ‘Agniveer’ scheme, three thousand vacant posts of sailors will be filled, for which one million applications have been received. out of which 82 thousand applications are from women.
