Landslide In Maharashtra’s Satara: NDRF Recovers Six Bodies, Eight Still Missing

Satara, July 24, 2021: Six bodies were recovered on Saturday from a landslide site in Ambeghar village in Maharashtra’s Satara district, while search operations are underway for eight others. The district administration said that at least 16 people are feared trapped in the landslide in the village in Patan tehsil as four to five houses were buried under the rubble.
An administration official said, “We have recovered six bodies during the search and rescue operation at Ambeghar.” Satara Superintendent of Police Ajay Kumar Bansal said that the local police, residents and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Rescue operation is underway.
Two other villages in the same tehsil – Mirgaon and Dhokawale also witnessed landslides where 12 and four people are feared trapped, respectively. Officials said rescue operations are underway at these places as well. Satara District Magistrate Shekhar Singh had said on Friday that around 30 people are feared trapped in these three landslides that took place on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday issued a new ‘red alert’ for Satara, predicting “extremely heavy rainfall” in the next 24 hours in the mountainous ‘Ghat’ areas of this western district of Maharashtra.
