Leadership must be rooted in purpose and process discipline: Bharat Gite
Pune, 15th January 2026: Purpose-driven leadership, grounded in process discipline and hands-on learning, is essential for building globally competitive manufacturing enterprises, said Bharat Gite, Managing Director and CEO of Taural India. He is known as the Aluminium Man of India, and he described his journey as one from “Bharat se Bharat tak.”
Bharat Gite was speaking at Stories & Samvad, a leadership interaction organised by the Institute of Management Development and Research (IMDR), Pune, on January 14. The session was attended by PGDM students, faculty members, and staff at the DES campus and concluded with an interactive question-and-answer segment. Dr Shikha Jain, Director, IMDR Pune, was present on the occasion.
In conversation with Nikhil Bharadwaj, Head – Corporate Communications, Bajaj General Insurance Ltd, and an IMDR alumnus, Gite traced his journey from Parali in Beed district of Maharashtra to building a world-class aluminium manufacturing enterprise in India. An alumnus of COEP Pune and RWTH Aachen University, Germany, he shared how global professional experience with companies such as BMW and Mahle GmbH shaped his understanding of manufacturing systems and quality processes.
Despite opportunities abroad, Gite said he chose to return to India under the Make in India vision. This decision led to the establishment of Taural India, an aluminium foundry catering to defence, aerospace, railways, and healthcare sectors.
Highlighting aluminium as a strategically important material, he said strengthening domestic manufacturing would reduce dependence on imports in sensitive sectors. He also spoke about Taural’s growth from a 10-member team to over 1,000 employees, driven by a focus on quality, learning, and gradual expansion.
Gite stressed that manufacturing leadership must remain closely connected to the shop floor and underlined the importance of continuous learning, unlearning, and respect for labour. Addressing students, he urged them to find meaning and passion in their work, remain connected to their roots, and contribute responsibly to nation-building. He also highlighted the importance of women’s empowerment through active and fearless participation in the industry.
Further, Gite spoke about the strategic selection of Chakan and Khed Shivapur for Taural’s facilities, citing strong industrial ecosystems, skilled manpower, and logistical advantages. Sharing a personal milestone, he recalled receiving international recognition in Frankfurt, where a German industrialist remarked that Taural’s plant is performing best in this sector.
