Leopard Scare at Pune Airport: Forest Department Expands Surveillance with More Camera Traps

Viman Nagar, 29th April 2025: Following the sighting of a leopard near the Pune airport runway on Sunday around 8 PM, the Forest Department, in coordination with RESQ Foundation, has intensified monitoring efforts by deploying camera traps at seven locations and setting up two trap cages.
On the night of the initial sighting, two camera traps and two cages were placed in strategic spots around the airport, but no leopard activity was detected. However, officials continued the search throughout Monday with support from a dog squad, which helped identify potential new tracks and movement areas.
“Based on indications provided by the dog squad, we have now installed camera traps at additional locations,” a forest official said. “Surveillance is now active at seven points in total, and two trap cages remain in place.”
Both Forest Department officials and members of the wildlife rescue NGO RESQ are jointly overseeing the round-the-clock monitoring operation to ensure the safety of both the wild animal and the public.
Residents and airport staff have been advised to remain alert and report any unusual animal movements immediately to authorities.
