Less Manual Labour, More Clean Roads: PMC’s Tech-Driven Clean-Up Begins in Pune
Swargate, 12th July 2025: In a move to enhance cleanliness and reduce manual labor, the Solid Waste Management (SWM) department of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has introduced a state-of-the-art Mechanical Sweeping System for city roads. The new machines were officially launched on Friday on Satara Road near Swargate.
These advanced machines are designed to clean major city roads — including those that are part of state and national highways — which experience heavy vehicular traffic and connect Pune with various parts of the country.
PMC officials said the decision to deploy mechanical sweepers was made due to the increasing difficulty of manually cleaning these high-traffic roads. The new system is expected to ensure regular and efficient cleaning, enhancing the overall cleanliness and aesthetic appeal of Pune.
“The new sweeping machines will significantly contribute to making Pune a cleaner and more beautiful city. This technology will reduce dependence on manual labor while maintaining hygiene standards on busy stretches,” said PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram during the launch event.
The inauguration ceremony was also attended by Additional Municipal Commissioners B.P. Prithviraj and Omprakash Divate, Deputy Commissioner Kadam, Executive Engineer and CSI of the SWM department, along with DSI and SI officers from the Dhankawadi-Sahakarnagar and Bibvewadi regional offices. Assistant Commissioners from both regional offices were also present.
