Lightning kills youth in Viman Nagar

Pune, March 2 – A 19-year-old youth was electrocuted due to lightning in Mahada colony of Viman Nagar on Wednesday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Akshay Vijay Bhalshankar. Another youth Santosh Chandane who was standing close to Akshay  received minor injuries.

According to information given by Akshay’s father Vijay, Akshay works as a labourer and returned early from his  work in Yerwada. “Akshay was sitting on an Activa and was holding a screw driver. We were having a casual chat in a shade as it was raining when lightning struck. Akshay fell on the ground and Santosh too felt the shock”, added Vijay.

Akshay was rushed to Rakshak hospital in Chandannagar but he was declared brought dead by hospital authorities. Rakshak hospital confirmed that Akshay died due to electrocution.

His body was then taken to Sassoon General hospital for autopsy. A case of accidental death was lodged at Vimantal police station.

“His hair were burnt and nothing happened to his body” , Vijay said.
