Liquor worth Rs 8.8 lakhs seized by Pune Police in Koregaon Park

Pune, April 17, 2020: The officials from Crime Branch of Pune city police have seized liquor worth Rs 8.8 lakhs from a restaurant and bar owner who was selling them at an exorbitant price in a clandestine manner.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ashok Morale had received information that liquor is being sold at Shatranj Wine and Dine in Koregaon Park. Accordingly, a dummy customer was sent to verify the sale of alcohol and after it was confirmed, a team of Crime Branch was sent to raid the bar.

ACP Shivaji Pawar, Police Inspector Rajendra Mohite, Police Sub Inspector Nileshkumar Mahadik from the Anti-Narcotics Cell led a team to the restaurant and bar and seized foreign, Indian liquor and beer, totally worth Rs 8.8 lakhs. State Excise Department’s Assistant Commissioner Sanjay Patil had also accompanied the police team.

Now an FIR has been registered with Koregaon Park police station against restaurant owner Kalimuddin Riyazuddin Shaikh for offences under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, Disaster Management Act, Epidemic Diseases Act.

Due to the Coronavirus outbreak, there is nationwide lockdown till May 3 and the sale of only essential commodities is allowed. There was a sharp increase in Coronavirus positive patients in Pune district yesterday with a total of 65 new cases. The total number of COVID19 patients has reached 497.

According to Dr Bhagwan Pawar, the district health officer (DHO), there are 423 patients under Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), 45 under Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and 29 under Pune rural areas. Till now 45 people have died including 43 in PMC, and one each in PCMC and Pune rural (Baramati).

As per the guidance from the Government of India, cluster containment action plan is being implemented in places where clusters of patients have been found in the state. There are 297 active containment zones in the state currently. Total 5664 surveillance squads worked today across the state and surveillance of over 20.50 lakh population was done.

In Pune also many areas have been sealed in the central Peth areas from Mahrishinagar to RTO as well as in Yerwada, Dhanori, Viman Nagar, Hadapsar, Kondhwa, Sinhgad road among others.
