Lockdown: 143 Afghan citizens board flight from Pune airport

Pune, May 22, 2020: Today 143 citizens of Afghanistan boarded KAM Airlines flight from Pune airport in Lohegaon. The flight landed at noon and departed at 2.30 pm. About a week ago also 143 Afghan nationals had returned to their home country from Pune airport.

Vaishali Patange, Joint Commissioner of Pune Customs, said, “Today we successfully facilitated rescue flight for 143 Afghanistan nationals stranded in India due to COVID19. They left by KAM Airlines. Departing Afghan nationals consisted of students from Pune, Hyderabad, Karnataka and Gujarat.”

The airport officials said that all the passengers were scanned for body temperature using thermal scanners. No departing passenger was found with signs and symptoms of COVID19. Customs, Airport Authority of India (AAI), Immigration and CISF coordinated to facilitate the movement. All the agencies including Customs followed COVID19 standard operating procedure (SOP) including use of PPE, maintaining social distancing, use of sanitizer, etc.
