Lockdown: 19 petrol pump owners booked by Pune police for selling petrol illegally

Pune, April 2, 2020: During the lockdown period, the rules have been made to sell petrol, diesel only to those engaged in essential services or given exemption police or district administration. However, many petrol pumps were seen flouting this rule.

 

The Pune City police have begun crackdown and filed cases against owners of 19 petrol pumps. On March 30, the cops held a meeting with members of the Pune Petrol Dealers Association and asked them to follow the rules while selling petrol, diesel. They were also asked to ensure no crowding at the petrol pump and that their staffs maintained social distancing.

In Baramati taluka, many people have been booked for non-compliance of lockdown rules at various places like roaming around on motorcycles.

 

Three FIRs were registered against Afzal Banimia Attar (39), Chandrakumar Jaimangal Shah (38) and Akshay Chandrakant Shah (32), all residents of Baramati taluka. They were convicted yesterday for offence under section 188 (disobedience of order duly promulgutaed by a public servant) of the Indian Penal Code. They have sentenced to three days imprisonment or a fine of Rs 500 each.

 

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Baramati) Narayan Shirgaonkar said that although this punishment may seem small, there will be no government or private employment as these persons were convicted which will be mentioned during their character verification in future.

 

At the same time, there will be major obstacles in obtaining passports, arms licenses or business licenses. These ‘small’ mistakes can ruin future. Therefore, all citizens are required to stay in their own home and take the lockdown seriously.

 

The whole country is under lockdown to prevent the spread of Coronavirus outbreak. There has been over 40 deaths and over 1500 Coronavirus positive cases in the country.

 

In Pune district, the number of positive patients have crossed 50 while one person has died.
