Pune, 28th April 2026: The Maharashtra government has initiated steps to upgrade the Lohgaon Sub-District Hospital (SDH) in Pune, with a proposal to increase its capacity to 200 beds and expedite its operationalisation. The decision was discussed at a meeting held at the Public Health Department in Mantralaya, chaired by Health Minister Prakash Abitkar in the presence of MLA Bapusaheb Pathare representing Vadgaonsheri Constituency.
During the meeting, key issues including the immediate commencement of the SDH facility, expansion of its bed capacity, and concerns regarding the Regional Mental Hospital in Yerwada were taken up for discussion.
MLA Pathare strongly pushed for the hospital to be made functional at the earliest, highlighting that residents of Lohgaon and surrounding areas currently depend on major hospitals for quality healthcare services. He stressed that increasing the hospital’s capacity to 200 beds would ensure timely and accessible healthcare for thousands of citizens while also easing the patient load on Sassoon General Hospital.
Pathare further demanded that a comprehensive project plan be prepared within one month and that construction and related works be completed in a time-bound manner. Responding to this, Health Minister Abitkar directed concerned officials to take immediate action and fast-track the process.

The meeting also addressed serious concerns raised by Pathare regarding the Regional Mental Hospital in Yerwada. He pointed out issues related to unhygienic conditions, lapses in patient care, and administrative irregularities.
Taking note of these concerns, the minister instructed officials from the Health Department and Public Works Department to conduct a joint inspection of the works carried out at the facility in the presence of the MLA.
“If the Lohgaon Sub-District Hospital becomes operational at the earliest, residents of Wadgaon Sheri constituency and nearby areas will get access to better healthcare services. I have demanded that a detailed project plan be prepared within a month and that the hospital’s capacity be increased to 200 beds. The Health Minister has directed the administration to act promptly. I have consistently followed up on this issue, and I thank the minister for taking a positive approach and giving special attention to ensure the hospital becomes operational soon,” said MLA Bapusaheb Pathare.
