Pimpri Chinchwad, 26th March 2024: Shirgaon police made a startling discovery during a check on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway within the jurisdiction of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate. A significant sum of cash amounting to Rs 50 lakh was seized, prompting further investigation by authorities.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Bapu Bangar confirmed the discovery and stated that Shirgaon police station staff are pursuing leads to determine the origin and intended purpose of the funds.

The seizure comes amidst the ongoing Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra and across the nation, leading to heightened security measures and checkpoints to ensure compliance with the model code of conduct. The incident occurred within the Maval Lok Sabha Constituency, where rigorous monitoring is being conducted to uphold election regulations.

The vehicle carrying the substantial cash sum was intercepted by Shirgaon police while traveling from Mumbai to Pune at Urse toll plaza.

Authorities are treating the incident with utmost seriousness, considering the possibility of widespread irregularities or attempts at influencing the electoral process through illicit means. Pimpri-Chinchwad police have initiated a thorough investigation into the matter to uncover any potential misconduct or illegal activities associated with the seized cash.
