Lonavala–Karjat Rail Restoration: All Track Cleared for Traffic, First Intercity Express Passes
Pune, 29th July 2026 : Railway authorities cleared the UPSE track for train operations at 6:42 pm on Tuesday at the restoration site between Khandala and Monkey Hill on the Lonavala–Karjat section, marking a key step towards restoring train movement through the landslide-affected stretch.
The track was declared safe for all traffic at 6:42 pm at kilometre 121/329–121/313, located between Khandala and Monkey Hill.
The first passenger train to pass through the restored site was Train No. 12128 Intercity Express, which crossed the location at 7:24 pm under a temporary speed restriction of 20 kmph.
The restriction has been imposed at the restoration site as train operations resume through the affected stretch.
The Lonavala–Karjat section had been facing prolonged disruption following heavy rainfall and landslides at multiple locations. Restoration teams have been working to clear affected portions and restore railway infrastructure in the ghat section.
Railway officials said the track was cleared for traffic after sustained restoration efforts at the affected location.
