Pune: PMC Demolishes 21,400 Sq Ft of Illegal Construction in Lohgaon, Kharadi; Issues Major Warning to Property Buyers in Newly Merged Areas
Lohgaon/Kharadi, 29th July 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Tuesday demolished around 21,400 square feet of unauthorised RCC construction in Lohgaon and Kharadi as part of a renewed crackdown on illegal constructions in newly merged areas of the city.
The action was carried out by the PMC’s Encroachment and Unauthorised Construction Removal Department in Nimbalkar Nagar, Survey No. 294, in Lohgaon, and in parts of Kharadi.
The demolition drive began around 9 am and was carried out under the directions of PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram and the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Encroachment and Unauthorised Construction Removal Somnath Bankar. Officials and engineers from the Building Development Department were also present during the action.
The civic administration has intensified its action against unauthorised construction and illegal plotting in villages recently incorporated into the PMC limits.
According to civic officials, several unauthorised constructions have come up in these areas without obtaining the mandatory permissions required under development regulations. Officials have also received reports of additional floors being constructed at night to evade civic action.
Ram has directed senior officials to take strict action against such violations during administrative review meetings.
Bankar said the PMC’s drive against illegal constructions, which had slowed down for some time, has now been intensified.
The extensive operation on Tuesday involved two PMC police officers, 13 police personnel, 35 Maharashtra Security Force (MSF) personnel, five JCB machines, six gas cutters, seven breakers and 25 labourers.
PMC warns citizens against illegal plots
The civic administration has also warned residents against purchasing plots being illegally created and sold in newly merged villages.
Officials said illegal plotting and sale of open land could result in financial losses and disputes for buyers. The PMC has advised citizens to verify the legal status and required permissions before purchasing land in the newly incorporated areas.
Ram urged citizens to avoid purchasing plots through illegal layouts until the PMC’s Development Plan (DP) is approved.
He also cautioned residents against carrying out unauthorised construction on illegally purchased land.
The PMC commissioner said action would continue against unauthorised constructions found anywhere within the civic limits.
“Citizens should not purchase plots through illegal plotting schemes or undertake unauthorised construction. The PMC will continue taking action against constructions carried out in violation of rules,” Ram said.
