Pune, 4th December 2024: Two youths drowned after underestimating the water’s depth at Pawana Dam in Maval taluka on Wednesday evening.
The Shivdurg Rescue Team retrieved one of the bodies, while the search for the second victim is set to continue.

A group of eight to ten friends working for a private company in Balewadi had visited the scenic Pawana Dam area for an outing around noon. Around 4 p.m., two of them entered the water near the dam’s watershed but quickly found themselves in trouble as they misjudged the depth and drowned.

Witnessing the incident, their companions immediately attempted to rescue them but were unsuccessful. They alerted the Lonavala Rural Police, who, along with the Shivdurg Rescue Team, launched a search operation.

One of the bodies was recovered, but the search for the second youth had to be halted due to poor visibility as night fell, police officials confirmed. Efforts to locate the missing individual will resume on Thursday.
