Pune, 18th October 2025: Modern College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Shivajinagar, has strongly refuted allegations made by former student Prem Birhade, who claimed that he lost a job opportunity in the UK due to the college’s refusal to verify his educational documents. The college stated that Prem had been provided with the required certificate and accused him of defaming the institution through social media.

Prem Birhade, who completed his BBA from the college during 2020–24 under the Progressive Education Society, had alleged that the administration discriminated against him based on caste when he sought verification of his academic credentials. According to him, professors asked about his caste and denied the certificate on instructions from their superiors.

However, Modern College clarified that the allegations were false. The college confirmed that the certificate was issued to Prem on October 14. Principal Dr. Nivedita Ekbote stated that the student had previously received a recommendation letter and bonafide certificate on three occasions. She also emphasized that she did not personally know Prem, as he had completed his education before her tenure.

“The decision to withhold any new reference letters was based solely on the student’s past indiscipline and misbehavior, not on caste. Prem Birhade has published false, misleading, and provocative videos on social media attempting to defame the college,” said Dr. Ekbote. She added that his actions constitute defamation, cyber harassment, and incitement, and urged authorities to take action under the IT Act to prevent further harassment of faculty and protect the college’s reputation.

Modern College reiterated that there has never been any caste-based discrimination in the institution. The administration maintains that the denial of additional reference letters was purely an administrative decision based on disciplinary grounds.
