Pune, 13th November 2024: The Pune District Collector, Dr. Suhas Diwase, has granted permission for the use of loudspeakers and sound systems during the 70th Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Festival, set to take place from December 18 to 22, 2024. On December 21, loudspeakers will be allowed from 6 AM to 12 AM, as per the official order.

The Pune district has been granted a 15-day concession for the use of loudspeakers. Of these, 13 days have already been utilised, leaving two days remaining. One of these days, December 21, will allow for the use of loudspeakers and sound systems, following a request from the Arya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal (ASPM).

The use of sound systems must adhere to the provisions outlined in the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules of 2000 and the 2017 amendments. Sound levels must comply with the prescribed limits, and where necessary, sound-absorbing materials such as wooden panels must be installed to mitigate noise. The order also specifies that noise levels must remain within acceptable limits for the area, and this exemption does not apply to peace zones.
