Mumbai, 12 October 2021: The Corps of Engineers Sailing Club, under the aegis of Yachting Association of India (YAI), is organising the YAI Youth Nationals 2021 from 11 Oct to 16 Oct 21 at Marve Beach, Mumbai.

The Opening Ceremony of the YAI Youth Nationals was conducted today where the Officials, Jury and sailors of national and international repute were present. Lt Gen JS Nain, Army Commander, Southern Command inaugurated the event and launched the week-long Sailing Regatta. The event gains special significance as it will award ranks to all participants and also conduct selection of sailors to represent the country in the ILCA 4 class of boat for the Asian Games 2022 being held at Hangzhou, China.

In his address, Lt Gen JS Nain said that the Indian Army is committed towards identifying and nurturing young talents from the country in various fields of sports under Mission Olympics. He said Indian sportsmen are capable of challenging the best in the world in various sports. He emphasised that the Indian Army will continue to encourage sportsmen to develop their skills and compete at the highest level.

The competition is in line with the Government driven initiative of “KHELO INDIA”. It will also spread the message of Clean and Green Ocean, as the sport harnesses clean energy of nature, wind, water, tides and waves to complete the course. The Championship has seen a huge response with more than 125 youth participating from across India. The competition will witness six sailing events being conducted in four different classes of boats. The participants will compete for the coveted top three positions in each class separately.

Indian Army has invested in international sporting events and decades of hard work has been put in by the Army in scouting and training talent. The Mission Olympics is an initiative and vision by the Indian Army to identify and train promising sports persons for various National and International competitions.
