L&T set to convert Pune into a Smart City

Pune, January 02, 2017: Larsen & Toubro has bagged yet another smart city project as part of the government’s Smart City Mission by being identified as the Implementation Partner to convert Pune into a Smart City. The Letter of Intent was handed over by the Municipal Commissioner of Pune, Mr. Kunal Kumar to representatives of L&T Construction’s Smart World & Communication Business Unit, which will be executing the project.
The scope of work includes enabling Wi-Fi at around 200 strategic locations across Pune, establishing Emergency Call Boxes and Public Address Systems, Environmental Sensors, Variable Messaging Displays, Network Connectivity and Video analytics Integration. The project intends to set up a state-of-the-art Smart City Operation Centre (SCOC) to integrate all its services and applications on a single platform. This single point interface will be a holistic platform with the potential to accommodate all the future needs through integration of various citizen centric applications. The project includes a revenue monetization model, country’s first in smart cities domain.
“After having set up the country’s largest surveillance project in Mumbai involving 5,000+ cameras across 1,500 locations and in the process of developing Nagpur into India’s first large-scale integrated smart city, we consider this mandate to make Pune smart as a reaffirmation of our capabilities in the area of creating a smart world,” said Mr. S.N. Subrahmanyan, Deputy Managing Director & President, L&T. “As a Master Systems Integrator, we will use cutting edge technology to provide solutions capable of high end analytics on a futuristic and eminently scalable platform,” he elaborated.
“After being selected as a top city under the smart cities mission, Pune Municipal Corporation has begun the journey towards building Pune as a next generation smart city,” said Mr. Kunal Kumar, Commissioner, Pune Municipal Corporation. “To provide an aspirational quality of life to citizens, Pune Smart City SPV is launching multiple projects including high speed Wi-Fi across more than 200+ zones at public buildings, bus-stops, hospitals, parks and key road stretches. For enhancing the safety and security for citizens, emergency call systems, public address systems and variable message displays will be deployed across the city.  All the smart elements will be connected to one of the most advanced Smart City Operations Centre. This will be a role model for the rest of the country to follow, in line with the best-in class examples in the world. To implement these solutions, Pune Smart City SPV after a rigorous selection process has selected L&T, an established leader in construction and building smart city Infrastructure,” he informed.
L&T’s Smart World business has been making its presence felt across some of the major Indian cities by creating smart solutions. Beginning with the development of surveillance and intelligent traffic management systems for the Government of Gujarat in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Vadodara and a surveillance and management system of critical infrastructure at the Sabarmati Jail, the business has since executed the smart city project in Jaipur and is executing India’s largest city surveillance project comprising 5000+ cameras across 1500 locations in Mumbai for the Government of Maharashtra. Projects are also underway in Delhi, Lucknow, Hyderabad and Nagpur.
