Maharashtra: CET Cell Corrects Age Eligibility Mistake, Restores Order for MBBS Admissions
Mumbai, 18th August 2024: In a significant mix-up, the state Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell mistakenly set the age eligibility for medical aspirants as those born on or before December 2006, instead of the correct year, 2007.
As a result, thousands of students who had successfully cleared the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-UG (NEET-UG) were suddenly deemed ineligible for MBBS admissions, causing widespread confusion and anxiety.
The error was rectified by the CET Cell on Saturday afternoon, much to the relief of students and their families.
Counselors pointed out that this mistake happens frequently, with the CET Cell often using outdated brochures to set up their systems. According to CET Cell officials, the error occurred because the age criteria in the brochure incorrectly stated December 2006, which was then implemented in the system.
“After we received numerous calls from concerned students, we corrected the issue. Registrations are now proceeding smoothly,” an official confirmed.
