Maharashtra: MAHAFPC Crosses Rs 500 Crore Mark In Procurement of Pulses

Pune, June 20, 2020: Despite the current COVID-19 situation MAHA Farmers Producer Co.Ltd. (MAHAFPC), a federation of 303 farmer producer companies in Maharashtra Under the Price Support Scheme (PSF) of Government of India has been successful in keeping its procurement operations running and has crossed Rs 500 Crores in the procurement of Agri commodities especially Tur & Chana in the last four months including first two months of the current Financial year 2020-21.
This year, for selling of Tur & Chana respectively 61,023 and 86, 977 farmers registered online. NAFED has played a crucial role to engage FPCs in procurement operations.
Despite various challenges being faced by the Company, the procurement performance for the current year has been outstanding as compared to previous years. In Kharif Marketing season, 2019-20, MAHAFPC has procured 26843 MT of Tur of 32832 farmers. And as a part of Rabi Marketing Season of 2020-21 procured 70666 MT of Chana from 47246 beneficiary farmers. Cumulative valuation of the procurement is ₹ 500 crore. Out of which 60 per cent farmers payment is disbursed directly into the farmers’ bank account.
MAHAFPCs policy of decentralised procurement centres in the production zone as cluster approach helped to decongest the APMCs and maintaining the social distancing for the safety of the farmers on the background of the novel coronavirus.
During FY 2019-20, the overall commodity handling of pulses increased by 78 per cent over the previous year. MAHAFPC has set up a network of around 160 FPCs in 19 districts of Maharashtra for Three Thousand MT per day capacity of collection, aggregation & warehousing of Pulses during FY 2019-20.
