Maharashtra Medical Council Launches ‘Know Your Doctor’ to Combat Fake Practitioners

Mumbai, 24th February 2025: In a pioneering move to curb fraudulent medical practices, the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) has launched the ‘Know Your Doctor’ (KYD) platform, enabling patients to verify doctors’ credentials in real time. This initiative aims to ensure transparency in the healthcare system and protect citizens from unqualified practitioners.
Real-Time Verification for Patients
The KYD platform, exclusively affiliated with MMC, provides detailed information on doctors’ qualifications, registration status, and specializations. Patients can verify their doctor’s authenticity through:
✅ QR Code System – Doctors will display QR codes in their clinics, allowing instant verification when scanned via smartphone.
✅ KYD Portal – Patients can log in and search for doctors by name to confirm their credentials.
MMC Administrator Dr. Vinky Rughwani emphasized the importance of the initiative, stating:
“Ensuring the health and safety of Maharashtra’s people is our top priority. The KYD platform is a significant step in eliminating fraudulent medical practices and reinforcing trust in the healthcare sector. With this, Maharashtra becomes the first state in India to introduce such a facility for patients.”
Addressing the Issue of Fake Doctors
Over the years, there have been rising complaints about bogus and unqualified doctors operating without valid licenses or degrees. MMC’s KYD initiative aims to safeguard patients by giving recognition to only authentic and qualified medical professionals.
The MMC is urging all registered medical practitioners in Maharashtra to participate and prominently display the QR code in their clinics to ensure seamless verification.
