Maharashtra: Opposition Leader Calls for Policy Decision on Rooftop Hotels Ban

Nagpur, 15th December 2023: Vijay Namdevrao Wadettiwar, the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, has urged for a comprehensive policy decision regarding the ban on rooftop hotels in the Maharashtra State. This demand was raised during a discussion on Lakshvedhi in the Assembly, emphasizing the need to address safety concerns and prevent tragic incidents like fires in hotels.

Wadettiwar brought attention to fatal incidents in Mumbai and Pune hotels due to fires, emphasizing the need to address safety regulations. Specifically, he highlighted the Orchid Hotel near Mumbai airport, which has a rooftop structure in violation of regulations.

In Pune, 21 rooftop hotels faced actions, including fines totalling six lakhs and reopening after necessary demolitions. The opposition leader expressed worry that without decisive policy decisions, similar unfortunate events might recur, stressing the urgency of the matter. The government responded positively to this call for action, indicating a potential consideration of policies to strengthen safety regulations for rooftop hotels.
