Maharashtra: Over 19,000 Seats Vacant in Private Schools Under RTE Admission

Pune, 6th August 2023: This year’s admission process for the 25 percent reserved seats in private schools under the Right to Education Act (RTE) has left a significant number of vacancies, with a total of 19,394 seats remaining unfilled in Maharashtra. Despite the admission process yielding successful placements for a total of 82,453 students, including both regular admission and waitlisted students, a notable number of seats have gone unclaimed.

 

The RTE admission process is overseen by the Directorate of Primary Education. For the current academic year, a total of 1,01,846 seats were made available across 8,823 schools for potential admission. The response was substantial, with 3,64,413 applications filed for these seats. From the admission draw, 94,700 regular admissions were announced.

 

Following the completion of regular student admissions, additional rounds were conducted to accommodate waitlisted students. These rounds resulted in 13,660 students gaining admission in the first round, 3,583 in the second round, 1,259 in the third round, and 18 students in the fourth round.

 

As a result of the admissions and rounds, a total of 19,394 seats remained unoccupied, as indicated by statistics available on the official website.
