Maharashtra: PM Modi to Inaugurate Ahmednagar-Beed Rail Section on Marathwada Mukti Sangram Din

Beed, 30th August 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off the inaugural run of a passenger train between Amalner (B) and Beed on September 17, 2025, coinciding with Marathwada Mukti Sangram Din. The event also marks the Prime Minister’s 75th birthday.

Ahmednagar–Beed–Parli Broad Gauge Line Project

The Ahmednagar–Beed–Parli Vaijnath New Broad Gauge Line is a major infrastructure initiative under the Central Railway zone, connecting the Ahilyanagar (earlier Ahmednagar) district with Beed and Parli Vaijnath in Marathwada.

Total Length: 261.25 km

Stations: 23 new stations

Bridges: 64 major and 302 minor

ROB/RUB Infrastructure: 65 Road Over Bridges and 130 Road Under Bridges

Estimated Cost: ₹4,957.31 crore

Funding: 50:50 cost-sharing between the Government of India and the Maharashtra government

The project has been under development for several years and has progressed in phases.

Cost of Amalner–Beed Section

The newly completed Amalner–Beed section (67.78 km) has been constructed at an estimated cost of ₹1,286 crore. With its commissioning, a significant part of the project stands operational, fulfilling a long-standing demand of the region.

Passenger Service Inauguration
Full Ahmednagar–New Ashti (66.18 km) inaugurated; DEMU service launched by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

February 28, 2024
New Ashti–Amalner Section Inaugurated
33.92 km section opened with 3 major bridges, 52 minor bridges, 8 ROBs, and 20 RUBs. Cumulative commissioned: ~100.18 km.

August 9, 2024
Amalner–Eiganwadi Section Completed
33 km section completed; CRS inspection and 120 kmph trial run successful. Infrastructure included 10 major bridges, 42 minor bridges, 8 ROBs, and 14 RUBs. Cumulative commissioned: ~132.92 km.

September 17, 2025
Amalner (B)–Beed Section (67.78 km) Inaugural Run
Section ready for operations, to be flagged off by Prime Minister Modi.

Significance of September 17

The inauguration coincides with Marathwada Mukti Sangram Din, observed annually on September 17. The day commemorates the 1948 integration of Marathwada into the Indian Union following Operation Polo, when the Indian Army brought an end to the rule of the Nizam of Hyderabad.

The date also marks Prime Minister Modi’s birthday. Born on September 17, 1950, he turns 75 this year.

The new line is expected to boost trade, connectivity, and socio-economic development in the Marathwada region. Improved logistics will support local industries, create employment opportunities, and enhance access to healthcare and education.
