Maharashtra Police raids illegal unit manufacturing counterfeit Goodknight products
Nagpur, 14th October 2025: Maharashtra Police, along with Godrej Consumer Products Ltd (GCPL) the company behind Goodknight, India’s leading household insecticide brand successfully busted a counterfeit operation in the state. The raid, carried out with support from GCPL’s investigation agency, is a crucial step toward curbing the circulation of fake mosquito repellent products across Maharashtra, including key urban markets like Mumbai and Pune.
Based on actionable intelligence, the local police and investigative teams conducted a swift raid at the illegal facility in Nagpur. The operation led to the seizure of a significant volume of counterfeit Goodknight materials, indicating a well-organized operation involved in manufacturing and possibly distributing fake products. Items recovered from the site include 10,937 empty Goodknight boxes, 2,641 counterfeit stickers, 7 empty brown cartons, and 2 finished fake Goodknight products.
An FIR (First Information Report) has been lodged against the accused under Section 318 (4)Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act 2023. Authorities are now tracking the distribution links and supply networks associated with this unit to prevent further circulation of such hazardous products in major cities like Mumbai and Pune, ensuring consumer safety across the state. This action stands as a warning to those dealing in counterfeit goods and reflects GCPL’s commitment to protecting consumer trust.
Commenting on the issue, Ashwin Moorthy, Chief Marketing Officer – India, Godrej Consumer Products Ltd, said, “The spread of counterfeit products across the country is a major concern for the FMCG industry. Counterfeits or look alike products are not only illegal, but also harmful and hazardous to human health. We regularly undertake quality checks of our products through a collaboration with our distribution network, local authorities, and consumers. This initiative with the Maharashtra police authorities will reprimand local retailers, manufacturers, and distributors of duplicate Goodknight products in the state.”
