Pune, 1st June 2023: The deadline of June 15 has been set for the validity of Aadhaar cards for students in Maharashtra. Authorities will directly verify any errors in the Aadhaar cards. However, students and teachers have found relief in the deadline for Aadhaar validity.

Sharad Gosavi, Director of Primary Education, stated, “The deadline of June 15 has been set for Aadhaar card validity. If any errors occur during this process, the education minister has instructed authorities to verify them. Appropriate action will be taken accordingly.”

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the process of general verification could not be carried out in the past two years. However, the education department has decided to conduct the general verification for the academic year 2023-24 based on Aadhaar validity.

Currently, the process of extracting Aadhaar cards for students and correcting any errors in the details is underway. It has come to light that some students’ Aadhaar cards have become invalid. Additionally, there are still many students who do not possess an Aadhaar card. This raises concerns about a potential decrease in the number of teaching positions if the Aadhaar validity requirement is met and the student population decreases.

In light of these concerns, School Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar recently conducted a review meeting of the Education Department in the state board. It was decided to set a deadline of June 15 for Aadhaar card validity. After this date, approvals will be granted based on Aadhaar verification. If any discrepancies in the number of Aadhaar-verified students are found, institutes have until November 30, 2022, to bring the matter to the attention of a senior-level officer, who will make the necessary decisions. These matters will also be reported to the Education Commissioner.
