Maharashtra: Thousands of Scholarship Applications Stuck at College Level; Technical Education Department Issues Strict Instructions
Pune, 28th March 2025: Thousands of scholarship applications under the Technical Education Department are still pending at the college level on the Maharashtra Direct Benefit Transfer (MahaDBT) portal. To address these delays, the department has issued strict directives to all institutions, urging them to expedite the verification and submission process.
According to a circular issued by Dr. D. V. Jadhav, Joint Director of Technical Education, Pune Division, three key scholarship schemes have been affected: the Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Tuition Fee Scholarship, the Dr. Punjabrao Deshmukh Hostel Maintenance Allowance, and the Scholarship for Minority Students Pursuing Professional Courses.
Under the existing process, students apply for these scholarships through their respective colleges, which are responsible for document verification and online submission. However, the department has identified significant backlogs, with 7,801 applications pending under the Shahu Maharaj Scholarship, 10,810 applications under the Deshmukh Hostel Allowance, and 422 applications under the Minority Scholarship.
In response, colleges have been directed to immediately complete the application processing on the MahaDBT portal. The circular also warns institutions that any further delays could lead to college principals being held accountable for students missing out on their scholarships.
The Technical Education Department has emphasized that timely disbursement of scholarships is crucial for students, and strict action will be taken against colleges that fail to comply with the new directives.
