Maharashtra: Two New Private Universities Approved In Pune Region
Pune, 7th August 2023: During the ongoing Monsoon session of the Maharashtra State assembly, a pivotal decision was reached with the approval of the status of two additional private universities in the Pune region. This development escalates the count of private universities in Pune to a noteworthy tally of 17.
The two freshly endorsed institutions are none other than the esteemed Deccan Education Society (DES) Pune University and the innovative MIT Vishwaprayag University.
A discernible trend is emerging within state educational circles, characterized by a surge in the establishment of self-financed universities. This prevailing inclination has led to a substantial upswing in the number of private universities not only in Pune but also in the adjoining Pimpri-Chinchwad region. This upward trajectory has been fortified by the proactive approach of the state government, which is championing autonomous policies for colleges.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) reports that the state presently houses over 22 private universities, with a significant portion—12 universities—dispersing knowledge and opportunities within the precincts of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.
It is anticipated that this recent accreditation will act as a catalyst, potentially paving the way for the proliferation of private universities in other metropolitan cities such as Mumbai, Nagpur, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
This influx of private universities seamlessly aligns with the state’s broader objective of nurturing education and fostering innovation. By introducing these institutions, the state is magnanimously expanding avenues for students to pursue advanced education while contributing to the growth of the region’s academic landscape.
