Maharashtra: Voter ID Cards to Be Delivered in 15 Days Under ECI’s New Fast-Track System
Pune, 23rd June 2025: In a move aimed at making voter services more efficient and citizen-friendly, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has rolled out a fast-track delivery system that ensures new and updated Elector Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) are delivered within just 15 days of application.
The streamlined system applies not only to newly registered voters but also to individuals updating their voter information — such as changes in name, address, or other corrections.
Under the new process, applicants will receive real-time SMS alerts throughout each stage — from the generation of the EPIC by the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) to its dispatch and delivery by India Post. Voters can now track the progress of their EPIC right up to their doorstep.
“This fast-track system is a major step toward reducing delays and enhancing transparency in electoral services,” said an official from the Chief Electoral Officer’s (CEO) office in Maharashtra. “We are now able to monitor applications through a fully digitized and integrated system.”
The initiative is powered by a dedicated IT module embedded in the ECINet platform, which has been integrated with the India Post API. This replaces the earlier manual workflow and allows for smoother coordination between election officials and the postal department.
Previously, applicants often had to wait up to 30 to 45 days to receive their EPIC. With this new system in place, the delivery time has effectively been cut in half. Officials said this change will be especially helpful in urban areas like Pune, where large volumes of voter registrations and corrections are processed every month.
The system also includes end-to-end encryption, ensuring the protection of personal data while maintaining accountability among officials handling the cards.
With elections on the horizon in various states, the ECI expects this upgraded EPIC delivery mechanism to strengthen public trust in the voter registration system and eliminate the uncertainty often associated with delays and errors.
