Maharashtra Wins 140 Medals In 36h National Games, Winners Felicitated By Ajit Pawar In Pune

Pune, 17th October 2022: The 36th National Games were held in Gujarat, India, after seven years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The opening ceremony was held in Ahmedabad on 1st October and ended in Surat on 12th October. It was earlier hosted by Kerala in 2015. A total of 7,000 athletes from across India participated in the National Games, which were played in six cities in Gujarat. A total of 36 events were held during the National Games 2022.

 

The most medals were won by The Services with 61 Gold, 35 Silver, and 32 Bronze, making it a total of 128 medals. Maharashtra won the second most number of medals, with 39 Gold, 38 Silver, and 63 Bronze, totalling 140 medals. Following Maharashtra was Haryana with 38 Golds, 38 Silver, and 40 Bronzes, making it a total of 116 medals.

The participants winning medals representing Maharashtra were felicitated by former Deputy CM Ajit Pawar on Sunday, 16th October. The President of the Maharashtra Olympic Association, Ajit Pawar, also held a press conference after felicitating the players in Pune and said, “This achievement is a big fruit of our previous hard work. We will continue to grow and reap more such results for Maharashtra and National Sports. I will hold a meeting with the Chief Minister, the Deputy Chief Minister, and the Sports Minister of Maharashtra for availing more and more schemes for sports in the State.”

 

Among the participants, Maharashtra’s Rupali Gangawane bagged the gold medal in the women’s rope mallakhamb competition with 9.25 points. Akshay Prakash Taral, also from the state, won gold in the men’s rope competition with 8.95 points. Shubhankar Vinay Khawle scored 9.20 points in the pole competition to win Maharashtra’s third gold medal in Mallakhamb. 10-year-old Shauryajit Khaire from Gujarat created history by becoming the youngest medallist of the 2022 Games with a bronze in pole mallakhamb.
