MahaRERA to Host Open Houses for Developers in Nagpur and Pune Regions

Pune, 19th January 2025: In a bid to simplify the registration process for housing projects in Nagpur and Pune, the Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) has announced that it will conduct open houses outside its Mumbai headquarters. The first session is scheduled to take place on January 22 in Nagpur.
MahaRERA Chairman Manoj Saunik said, “The Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016 unambiguously mentions that any housing project cannot be advertised without being registered with RERA. MahaRERA already has defined the legal, financial and technical framework for issuing a registration number to a housing project. To facilitate registration of a housing project and issuance of MahaRERA number, the queries raised are replied to in-person during the open session held every week at the headquarters in Mumbai. We will start with this practice, from this month, on a monthly basis in Nagpur and Pune as well. To begin with, we are starting in Nagpur. MahaRERA has been putting in efforts to assist in the project’s registration process. The experience will be seamless, if the applicants fill out the forms completely and furnish the required information.”
Developers often encounter challenges while registering their projects with MahaRERA, even after receiving assistance from experts affiliated with Self-Regulatory Organisations (SROs). To address such issues, MahaRERA has been hosting weekly open houses at its Mumbai office, where senior officials provide clarifications and resolve queries. Responding to repeated requests from developers in other parts of Maharashtra, the authority has decided to extend this initiative to cities like Nagpur and Pune.
The inaugural open house in Nagpur will have officials from financial, legal, and technical departments available to assist developers in resolving project registration-related queries. This session is expected to provide much-needed support to developers in the Vidarbha region.
Additionally, MahaRERA recently eased the minimum project requirement for forming SROs outside the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), reducing it from 500 to 200 projects. This decision aims to empower real estate associations in other parts of Maharashtra to establish SROs, streamlining the registration process for developers statewide.
The Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016 mandates that all housing projects must be registered with RERA before they can be advertised or sold. MahaRERA has urged developers to ensure that all necessary documents and details are submitted accurately during the registration process to enable quicker approvals and the issuance of registration numbers.
