Mahavitaran To Automatically Change Name Of Electricity Connection Holder After Shift In Ownership
Mumbai, 1st December 2022: After purchasing an old house or shop, Mahavitaran (Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited/Mahadiscom/MSEDCL) has recently started a new system using information technology to automatically change the name of the connection holder to get its electricity connection from the old owner to the new owner. Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Vijay Singhal, Chairman and Managing Director of Mahavitran congratulated the officials for successfully implementing this initiative as per the ‘Ease of Living’ suggestion.
If one bought an old house or shop and registered it with the concerned department on payment of stamp duty accordingly, then a separate application had to be made to get the electricity connection of that house or shop from the old owner in their name. For this change, the application and accompanying documents were submitted to Mahavitran and, after payment of the processing fee, verified by the employees of the company. Mahavitran has also provided an online facility for this. Accordingly, the relevant documents can be uploaded by filling out the online application form. But, in this process, time was being spent verifying the documents. Customers often had to follow up.
According to the new arrangement, the IT system has been linked with the stamp duty and registration department. Once the process of the new owner’s name is completed in the registration section, a message is sent to Mahavitaran. Accordingly, Mahavitaran sends an SMS to the concerned customer and informs them to pay the necessary processing fee. The customer can also pay this fee online at home. Once the fee is paid, the electricity connection is in their name, and the next month’s electricity bill is sent in the name of the new owner.
If the house is purchased in the name of more than one person, they are asked to contact them and choose to whom the electricity connection should be transferred as the electrical connection can be in the name of a single person or organization. In the new process, a separate application, filing of documents, verification and follow-up to get power connection in name has been reduced, so the customers have got relief. The new system has recently been successfully tested.
