28th November 2023: A new spy image of the highly anticipated Mahindra Thar 5 Door, set to become a prominent SUV in the Indian market, has recently emerged. This sighting brings the vehicle closer to its launch, adding to the excitement. Presently, the three-door Mahindra Thar holds a strong position in the Indian market, showcasing its dominance in both off-roading and lifestyle SUV categories. Anticipation is high that the forthcoming five-door Mahindra Thar will continue this trend. Despite numerous previous spy image releases, this time, the SUV is captured in greater proximity to its production-ready form.

Examining the spy images, it’s evident that the five-door Mahindra Thar will boast a newly designed front profile, featuring LED projector headlamps, LED DRLs, and a fog light setup. Its frontal aesthetics are expected to resemble the Jeep Regular. Additionally, a B-pillar-based door will be introduced in the side profile, complemented by newly designed alloy wheels. The rear will showcase a revamped bumper and a new LED tail light unit. These alterations contribute to setting the Mahindra Thar 5 Door apart from other SUVs on the road.

The distinctiveness of the upcoming Mahindra Thar extends beyond its exterior. Significant changes are anticipated in the cabin, making it not only an off-roading SUV but also a lifestyle choice for those seeking a spacious vehicle. The interior might witness adjustments to the dashboard layout, premium leather seats, handrests for both front and rear passengers, and soft-touch features throughout. A light-themed ambiance is likely. Feature-wise, the 5 Door variant is expected to surpass the current Mahindra Thar, offering a digital instrument cluster, a large touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a single voice-assist sunroof, roof-mounted speakers, automatic climate control, a six-way height-adjustable driver seat, footwell lighting, cruise control, and advanced car connectivity technology.

While the engine under the bonnet is anticipated to remain the same as the current Thar, its larger size may lead to engine tuning. The current Thar’s four by four variant features a 2.0-liter turbo petrol engine generating 152 bhp and 320 Nm of torque, along with a 2.2-liter diesel engine producing 130 bhp and 300 Nm of torque. Both engines come with six-speed manual and automatic transmissions. Reports suggest the possibility of introducing rear-wheel-drive technology.

The pricing for the upcoming Mahindra Thar 5 Door is expected to start at Rs 15 lakh and go up to Rs 25 lakh ex-showroom, positioning it as a formidable competitor against models like the Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5 Door and Force Gurkha 5 Door. Mahindra has confirmed the launch of five more Thar variants in the new year, although the exact date remains undisclosed.
