MAJ GEN MADHURI KANITKAR VSM APPOINTED NEW DEAN & DEPUTY COMMANDANT OF AFMC

Maj Gen Madhuri Kanitkar VSM, a renowned expert in the field of Paediatric-Nephrology has been appointed as Dean & Deputy Commandant of the prestigious Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, which is a premier medical institution of national eminence. She replaces Lt Gen A K Das, who has assumed command of Army Hospital   (R & R), New Delhi on 01 Feb 2017.

Maj Gen Madhuri Kanitkar VSM is a graduate of AFMC and a recipient of the President’s Gold Medal and Kalinga Trophy. She is the eighth alumnus of the college and the first lady officer to assume the appointment of Dean & Deputy Commandant. She was commissioned into the Indian Army in Dec 1982. She obtained MD (Paediatrics) from Bombay University in 1991 and did her post doctoral training in Paediatric Nephrology from AIIMS, New Delhi in 2001. She is a recognized postgraduate teacher and examiner in several Universities in India.

During her long and distinguished career she has held several prestigious appointments including Senior Adviser in Paediatrics & Paediatric Nephrology at Base Hospital, Delhi Cantt and Military Hospital Namkum, Professor & Head, Department of Paediatrics, AFMC, Pune and Deputy Director General Armed Forces Medical Services (Planning and Training) in the office of DG AFMS, prior to assuming the present appointment.

Maj Gen Madhuri Kanitkar VSM is a paediatric nephrologist of national repute. She is credited with a large number of research publications and introduction of several innovations in the field of peadiatric nephrology and medical education. She was awarded Chief of Army Staff Commendation Cards in 2000, 2003, 2008 and twice in 2012, GOC in C (SC) Commendation Card in 2004 and Vishist Seva Medal for rendering yeoman service in the field of paediatric nephrology in Jan 2014.

She is married to Lt Gen R V Kanitkar, PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM and the couple has a son, Nikhil and a daughter, Vibhuti, who are well established in their own fields.
