Man Arrested Near Indo-Nepal Border for Illegal Telephone Exchange Operation

Panitanki, 10th January 2025: In a joint operation, the Military Intelligence (MI) unit from Sukna, West Bengal, and Khoribari Police apprehended a Nepali national, Ashok Pathak, near the Panitanki Indo-Nepal border around 3:30 pm. Pathak was reportedly in possession of an illegal exchange device and other suspicious items.

The operation was carried out based on intelligence inputs about illegal activities in the border area. Pathak was intercepted while traveling in a Scorpio vehicle bearing registration number WB 40P 3888.

Upon preliminary questioning, the following items were recovered from the suspect:

  • Illegal Exchange Device: Dimstar Linux Business (Serial No. DB000040BF000119)
  • Asus Router
  • 09 Nepal SIM Cards: Issued by Smart Cell Company
  • 01 Indian SIM Card: Airtel
  • Samsung Galaxy A15 Mobile Phone
  • Identification Documents: Nepal National Identity Card, Nepali Driving License, Indian Aadhaar Card, and Indian Driving License
  • Vehicle: Scorpio (WB 40P 3888)

The apprehension raises serious concerns about cross-border illegal activities involving communication devices and counterfeit operations. The recovered illegal exchange device and SIM cards suggest potential misuse for unauthorized communication or fraudulent activities.

Pathak is currently in custody, and further investigations are underway to uncover the extent of the operation and possible networks involved.
