Pune: History-Sheeter Arrested In Pimpri Chinchwad With Four Pistols And Live Cartridges
Pimpri Chinchwad, 10th January 2025: Pimpri Chinchwad Police have arrested a history-sheeter with four pistols and multiple live cartridges from their jurisdiction. The action was taken by the Detection Branch (DB) of Sangvi Police Station, acting on a tip-off. The arrest raises questions about the accused’s motives and the reason for possessing so many weapons.
The accused has been identified as Rohit Durgesh Dharmadhikari, a 23-year-old resident of Old Sangvi. A case has been registered against him under the relevant sections of the Arms Act of 1959 and the Maharashtra Police Act of 1951.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Swapna Gore, Police Constable Vivek Gaikwad received information from a trusted source about a man aged 22 to 25 years carrying a pistol in Old Sangvi. The DB team went to the location and detained the accused, Dharmadhikari. Upon initial search, two country-made pistols and live cartridges were found on his person. A case was registered against him at Sangvi Police Station. After the case registration, a further search led to the discovery of two more country-made pistols and three live cartridges.
In total, the police recovered five country-made pistols and seven live cartridges from Dharmadhikari. DCP Gore revealed that the accused is a history-sheeter with previous offences related to illegal possession of weapons. The Sangvi Police are currently investigating the matter to determine the reason behind the purchase of these weapons and the accused’s intentions.
This action was conducted under the guidance of Pimpri Chinchwad Commissioner of Police Vinoy Kumar Choubey, Joint Commissioner of Police Dr Shashikant Mahavarkar, Additional Commissioner of Police Vasant Pardeshi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1) Swapna Gore, and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Pimpri Division) Sachin Hire. The team, led by Senior Police Inspector Mahesh Bansode, in charge of Sangvi Police Station, included Police Sub-Inspectors Chakradhar Takbhate and Suresh Hinge, Assistant Police Sub-Inspector Shashikant Waghule, and Police Constables Prakash Shinde, Sachin Dhawale, Vivek Gaikwad, Pramod Gode, Pravin Patil, and Suhas Dangare.
