Man Sentenced to 5 Years for Molesting Minor in Pune

Pune, 2nd April 2025: Pune District Court has sentenced Rajendra Patil (56), a resident of Kale Padal, to five years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 for molesting a minor girl. The incident occurred on 14th November 2023, first near a school gate around 2:15 PM and later at the accused’s residence in Kale Padal around 5:00 PM.
According to the police, Patil took advantage of the minor victim being alone in his rickshaw and molested her despite being fully aware of her age. Later that evening, he called her to his house and repeated the act. Following a complaint filed by the victim’s family, the Hadapsar Police registered an FIR under IPC Sections 354(A), 354(D), and 506, along with provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
The case was investigated by Assistant Police Inspector Pravin Abdagire, who submitted a chargesheet within the stipulated time. Based on substantial evidence presented during the trial, Special Judge (POCSO) at the District and Sessions Court in Shivajinagar convicted Patil today.
Special Public Prosecutor Nitin Kondhe and Police Constable Sambhaji Mhagre represented the government in the case. Recognizing their efforts, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5) Dr. Rajkumar Shinde awarded Rs 10,000 each to Constable Mhagre and API Abdagire for their work in securing justice for the victim.
